The 1/16th was formed at Ft. Riley,Kansas from Volunteers from the other Infantry Regiments so that they could participate in "Operation Long Thrust V." a training mission to Germany in 1963. Great site! I have browsed your site several times and enjoy it every time I look at it. My brother SGT. Dan R. Shearin served with the 1st. Bn. 1/5 Mechanized Infantry of the 25th Infantry Division. He was a door gunner from the 25th serving from Feb. 1965 until April 29, 1965. Would love to hear from anyone that may have known him or was with him in RVN during this time. He deployed back to RVN with the 25th in January of 1966 and was there only a short time before he was KIA at Cu Chi on 1/31/66. I would love to hear from anyone that has recollections of him. I have one of his patches that has a helicopter on it with UTT, 68th, & 197th on it. If anyone can tell me about the doorgunners or this patch during the time listed above I would love to hear from you. Was at Soc Trang RVN in 1963 with the USAF 1st. Air Commando Sqn. The 121st. Av. Bat. had H-21 copters there. The need for door gunners brought the 25th. Inf. I was given a pin by a friend in the 25th. while there. I wore it on my hat in Vietnam and it is on my hat today 38 years later. Welcome Home to all the 25th. |

Toby (my dog and best friend) did serve with the "triple deuce" on a couple of sweeps. These were great guys to work with and made getting from one point to another, we got to ride most times.

Hi, served with "B" company 1st of the 5th. '72-'76. Like your web page. Took a small boy under my wing for a while. After teaching each other a few words in our oun language one night I woke up the next day with the worst case of pink-eye our medic had seen. I am in the middle of rebuilding the entire history of the 25th Aviation Battalion Little Bears and Diamondheads . I have acquired all of our daily journals and most of the operational level After a action Reports, that are posted on my web page. WE were an aviation company. Our total job was supporting grunts. To build our history, we made yours. I need a little help reconstructing ours. If you have moments you can remember where we bailed you out, resupplied you, medi-vaced you, supported you, the help would surely be appreciated. It would serve us all in the end. It will be a history book in journalistic fashion, and then a novel "Diamondhead".

I was looking through some of the listing on Nui Ba Den and came across your site. I was on top of Nui Ba Den in Jan of 69. Then in July or August of 69 I was reassigned to HHC and sent to Nui Ba Den as a replacement after it had been over ran. |
