Andrew Michael "Mike" Kritscher June 19, 1941 - January 10, 2017 Resident of Pleasant Hill Andrew Michael "Mike" Kritscher, 75, of Pleasant Hill, California, passed away at home, on January 10, 2017. He was born and raised in western Pennsylvania, and was the first child of Andy and Ann Kritscher, who have both passed. The Kritscher family moved to Lafayette, California in 1956, where Mike went to Acalanes High School and was a three sport athlete. His first love was baseball and he pitched a no-hitter his junior year for the Dons. The University of California, Berkeley, offered Mike a four-year baseball scholarship. There he majored in Baseball and Business, eventually graduating in 1965. During his Cal days he became a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and married his high school sweetheart, Diane Cherry. In 1965, Mike entered the U.S. Army as an Infantry Second Lieutenant. After a 2-1/2 year tour in Germany and the birth of Mike Jr., he was stationed in Cu Chi, Vietnam, with the lst/5th Infantry Bobcats, 25th Infantry Division. Although decorated four times, Mike decided against a career in the Army and was last stationed for 18 months in Oakland, California. While stationed there, he received his MBA from Golden Gate University. His next career as a Cost Estimator started in Dallas, Texas, with Fischbach and Moore. After five years, he left F&M and moved back to the Bay Area. In 1977 he married Susan Faron, who had four children: Molly, Heidi, Tim and Matt. In 1985 Mike was divorced again, changed jobs again, and married again, this time to Myrle Jean Welch, who lived, along with her son Douglas, in Redwood City, California. Later Kristopher would be added to the family. His final job change was working for the Leland Saylor Companies for the next 25 years, retiring in 2011. Mike was active in the American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE) for 20 years, was a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), and served on the ASPE Board of Directors. In 1990 Mike was grandfathered-in as a Certified Teacher, and taught night classes in Construction Cost Estimating at Diablo Valley College for 20 years, also retiring in 2011. Retirement was filled with traveling with Myrle: to Hawaii (their favorite), to England and Scotland to find the origin of her clan, and to visiting Mike's old Army buddies. Retirement made time for his old hobby, golf: especially playing with the Bishop's 7:00 Group on Wednesdays, at Boundary Oaks in Walnut Creek, and the monthly Northern California Left-Handers tournaments. Mike is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Myrle, his sons Mike Junior and Kris, five step-children, and grandchildren, Thomas and Freya. Also surviving him are his brother, Al Kritscher of Onalaska, Washington, and his sister, Andi Ann McCarrel of Lafayette, California. He will be missed by many other family members and friends. Friends are invited to attend a memorial to his life at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, in Pleasant Hill, California, on January 28, at 1:00 pm.
