Major John M. Little, United States Army Ret., of Lancaster, KY passed away July 20, 2011 at the age of 78. Jack, born 27 April 1933 to Emmet and Frances Spencer Little in Flint, MI, was one of eight brothers and sisters, and a twenty-one year veteran of the United States Army as both an enlisted man and an officer in the Infantry branch. He was awarded the Silver Star for valor in combat as a corporal during the Korean War; and later served as an Infantry officer in Vietnam. In addition to the Silver Star and other medals and decorations he was twice awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and Bronze Star. Jack also served his nation as a contract employee for the Central Intelligence Agency in Central America. Major Little was a man of many varied talents, speaking six languages, holding a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and having earned both bachelor and master degrees in Social Psychology from Michigan State University. Jack was predeceased by three brothers, Terence, Roger, and Emmet Little, and two sisters, Eileen L. Dalton and Edna Little, and is survived by two sisters, Joyce L. Erickson (Howard) of Davison, MI, and Joan L. Dietch of Minneapolis, MN. He also leaves behind his devoted wife of forty-nine years Nancy S. Little of Lancaster, KY, two daughters, Laura Little Weir (Dan) of New Washington, Ohio and Susan E. Little (Rodney Will) of Stillwater, OK, and his son Michael E. Tain of Lancaster, KY. Of particular joy to Jack were his grandchildren, Jesse and Caroline Bethea, and Edith and Judd Will. He was also greatly loved by a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Major Little was a warrior, scholar, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will always be fondly remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Visitation will be at the Saint Williams Parish Church Hall in Lancaster, KY on Sun, July 24, 2011 at 5pm followed by the Rosary in the church at 7:30pm. Funeral mass will be on Mon, July 25, 2011 at 10:30am at Saint Williams Catholic Church in Lancaster, KY with Father Peter Joseph, HGN, Father Thobias Sabariar, MC, and Father George Thellikalayil, MC, officiating. Major Little will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
