Roy Alexander Obituary Roy L. Alexander, age 76, of Germantown Hills, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Born on February 26, 1948, in Boonville, MO, he was the son of James Frank and Mary Ruth (Haley) Alexander. Roy was united in marriage to Patricia M. Schaer on May 12, 1968. They had recently celebrated 56 years of a blessed marriage, a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Roy was a man of many passions and pursuits. He took great pride in maintaining an immaculate yard, delighting in mowing and tackling various landscaping projects. His love for travel was evident as he and Pat spent the last 15 winters in Orange Beach, AL, enjoyed cruises, and often embarked on short getaways. Roy especially cherished fall trips to Wisconsin with his wife, children and granddaughters and was a devoted supporter of his granddaughters, often traveling to LaSalle, IL, to attend their school events. A pillar of his community, Roy was a dedicated member of the East Peoria Community Church of God for over 50 years, serving as an Elder and youth leader, teaching an adult Sunday School class and occasionally speaking from the pulpit. His unwavering faith in God and leadership were an inspiration to many. Professionally, Roy worked for 29 years at UPS, retiring in 2003. Following his retirement, he briefly worked at AXA Advisors with his good friend David Gray in Peoria, and later at Farmer’s Insurance Company with Loren Zimmerman in Peoria Heights. Roy proudly served his country as a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, earning three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, several Bronze Stars, and other medals of honor for his bravery and service. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his daughter, Krista (Matthew) Westerman of LaSalle, IL; his son, Jeffrey (Girlfriend Julie and son Levi Minor) Alexander of Janesville, WI; and his cherished granddaughters, Rhyan and Aly Westerman. He is also survived by his Mother-in-Law Thelma Schaer, Sister-in-Law Ruth Schupp, Brother and Sister-In-Law Dan and Connie Miller, Sister-in-Law Quillie Alexander of Kansas City, MO, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; his eldest son Kevin; his brother Charles Alexander; his sister Marian (Alexander) Brandes; and brother-in-law Paul Brandes. Roy’s life was a testament to faith, family, and service. His warmth, dedication, and love for his family and community will be deeply missed. He leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment that will continue to inspire all who knew him. A Memorial Service conducted by Pastor Curtis Rowden of the East Peoria Community Church of God will be held to celebrate Roy’s remarkable life and legacy at the Mason Funeral Home in Germantown Hills, IL on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Bay Cemetery in Spring Bay, IL with military honors accorded.
