DETAILS
PFC Arturo Alejandro Gomez, aged 29, was tragically hit and killed by a drunk driver while on active duty at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska, on July 22, 2024.
Arturo was born on February 14, 1995, in Chula Vista, San Diego County, California. He grew up in Henderson, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas, and graduated from Basic High School in 2013. Arturo excelled in the musical and visual arts. He was selected for the All-State Nevada Choir and was a self-taught pianist. He was also a thespian in the Theater Department. He was a member of Future Business Leaders of America.
After graduating from high school, he attended LDSBC in Salt Lake City. In the middle of his education, he chose to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Mexico Puebla South mission. After his mission, he moved to Provo, and he continued his education at Brigham Young University.
Arturo joined the United States Army in July 2023 and, upon graduation from Basic Combat Training and Specialist Training, was part of the 11th Airborne, known as the "Arctic Wolves." He was a fully trained infantryman and paratrooper. He quickly found a home in the Army, enjoying its camaraderie and the challenges, physical and mental, that it provided. Arturo was known for being a mentor to the younger recruits. He will be buried with full military honors.
Arturo had many diverse interests. He was an accomplished tenor, photographer, enjoyed shooting sports, filled books with sketches and drawings, played tennis, played the piano beautifully, enjoyed golf, and was always one of the most kind, gentle, and humorous individuals anyone could ever meet. We had so much fun and laughter with Arturo on our family trips and holidays. His kind and generous heart was unmatched. He always had a humorous pop culture turn of phrase at his lips and brought joy and laughter to everyone he knew. He is so deeply missed.
Arturo is survived by many family, friends who loved him deeply.
