Jon W. Cartwright, 74, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday Dec. 13, 2017, at his home. He was born on June 30, 1943, in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late Sterling and Imogene (McConnahay) Cartwright. On November 21, 1964, he married Carolyn Oakleaf of Republic, Ohio, at the Republic Methodist Church, and she survives. Other survivors include their daughter, Kendra (Benjamin) Freud of Hong Kong and their son, Jon (Julie) of Chicago, Illinois. Grandchildren are: Nicolas Freud, Alexia Freud, Alexandra Cartwright, anda Jon Curtis Cartwright. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kent in 2017, and also an infant brother. Jon graduated from Tiffin Columbian in 1961 and from Tiffin University in 1965. He played basketball at Tiffin University, and was inducted into Tiffin University’s second Hall of Fame Class in 1996. Jon was employed by National Machinery Company in Tiffin for 40 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a supervisor in the material control department. Jon was an avid hunter and fisherman. An American soldier, he answered his country’s call in 1968 and proudly served as a combat medic with the US Army, Twenty Fifth Infantry Division in Viet Nam during 1968-69. His decorations include: the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for Valor with First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, and the revered Combat Medic Badge. Jon was a life member of the Twenty Fifth Infantry Division Association and a past president and life member of The Fifth Infantry Regiment Association.
