LINCOLNTON, GA. - Master Sergeant John Cullars McCrimmon, U.S. Army retired, entered into rest on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Thomson Manor in Thomson, Ga. The graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 at Lincolnton City Cemetery with Rev. Dan Rosser officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Norman, Murray Toombs Norman, Robert T. Poss, Herbert W. Bailey, Sr., Danny Dawkins and Richard Butler. M/Sgt. McCrimmon was born in Lincoln County and was the son of the late George Robert McCrimmon and the late Mary Kathleen Cullars McCrimmon. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and Viet-Nam. He was an infantryman and served 7 tours of foreign duty. During World War II he served in Company "A", 309th. Inf. Regt., 78th Infantry Division in Europe and was wounded in Germany in 1945. During the Korean Conflict he served in Company "K', 5th. U.S. Inf. Regt., 5th. Regimental Combat Team as a Rifle Platoon Sgt. and later as Company First Sergeant. He served 42 months in Viet-Nam with the Military Assistance command and was wounded in 1965. During his career he was also assigned to the 5th., 9th. and 24th Infantry Divisions, the 1st Cavalry division and the 3rd., 30th., and 351. Inf. Regts. and the 5th. Training Brigade at Fort Jackson, S.C. He was one of 295 men who have been identified as serving in three separate wars as Combat Infantryman Badge and have received three awards of the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB). In 1984 these three time recipients of the CIB were honored in an impressive ceremony held at Ft. Benning, GA. Their names are inscribed on Brass Plaques that are permanently displayed in the National Infantry Museum at Ft. Benning, Ga. Among his Awards and Decorations are the combat Infantryman Badge, 3rd. Award, Bronze Star Medal 2 OLC, Purple Heart 1 OLC, Army Commendation Medal 1 OLC, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Viet-Nam Campaign Medal with Devise and numerous Service Medals to include the European Campaign Medal, World War II victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal 1 OLC, Korean Service Medal, Viet-Nam Service Medal and 7 awards of the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Lincolnton Baptist Church, American Legion Post 194 Lincolnton, Veterans of foreign Wars Post 649 Augusta, Life Member of Lincoln County Friends of the Library, Benefactor Life Member of the National Rifle Association since 1960. He was Author and Publisher of the "THE CULLARS FAMILY ANCESTRY BOOK" AND "MEMOIRS AND RECORDS OF JOHN CULLARS McCRIMMON". He was preceded in death by his sisters Margueritte M.
