Harry S. Dillon Sr., 93, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022.
He was born on Aug. 24, 1929, in Vail, son of the late Adam W. and Anna (Irvin) Dillon. In 1950, he married Dorothy C. Reader, who preceded him in death in 2011.
Surviving are two children: Sherry (Mark Estright) Dillon and John Dillon; one grandchild; three siblings: Donald Dillon, Janet Dillon Seiner, and Carol Dillon Brenneman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Harry S. Dillon Jr.
Harry Sr. attended Tyrone Area High School and after graduating, he went to work for Westvaco Pulp and Paper Co. He was drafted during the Korean War and went on to serve our country in the 24th Infantry Division, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 555 Field Artillery. Upon returning home from the Korean War, he went back to work for Westvaco Pulp and Paper Co. He also started, owned, and operated Dillon Trucking from 1953 to the present, having his own garage, numerous trucks, and drivers over the years for hauling coal, sand, stone, blacktop, logs, and freight. Harry Sr. also hauled U.S. mail and was sub-contracted by Black Brothers in Tyrone.
He was very active in his hobbies such as the Antique Auto Club, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Col. James Crowther Camp 89, American Legion, VFW, Mountain Lodge 281, the 32nd Degree Freemasons, and the Valley of Altoona Scottish Rite. He enjoyed hunting and was part of the NRA. Along with his children, he loved his pets.
