Jose Orlando Garza, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, at the age of 80 in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Mission, Texas, on June 17, 1943, to Orlando Garza and Herlinda Garcia Garza, Jose lived a life marked by dedication, love, and a passion for the great outdoors. Jose, known affectionately to friends and family as simply Jose, was the cherished husband of Maria Luisa Garza. Their marriage was a testament to commitment and mutual respect. Together, they raised their son, Orlando, and warmly welcomed their daughter-in-law, Marisa into the family. Jose's pride and joy were his grandchildren, Cristian and Carmen Garza, who filled his life with laughter and happiness.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Orlando and Herlinda Garza; his sisters Pura Solis, Arcilia Garza, and brothers, Hector Garza and Humberto Garza. He is survived by his sisters, Aurora Ramirez, Juanita Villanueva, Ofilia Quintinilla, Elalia MagaƱa, Rebecca Valdez, and brothers, Rodolfo and Indalesio Garza. Jose's life was enriched by the bonds he shared with his siblings, and he held a special place in the hearts of his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
After serving a year in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, Jose continued to work hard and use his skills as a welder. He took great pride in his work, particularly during his time with Veterans Affairs, where he was not only a dedicated employee but also a passionate advocate for veterans' welfare. His colleagues respected him for his integrity and his commitment to excellence in everything he did. Jose's interests were as robust as his work ethic. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for hunting and fishing, pursuits that brought him closer to nature and provided him with countless stories to share with friends and family. Additionally, Jose was a talented gunsmith, a hobby that combined his precision as a welder with his passion for firearms. His expertise and craftsmanship were admired by all who knew him.
