SPC Jeremy Daniel Evans, passed away on October 2, 2023, near Ft Wainwright Alaska. Jeremy, as he was known to many in the area, was born March 31, 2000. Jeremy attended Gibbs High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army as a private. Jeremy was a blessing in everyone’s lives, with his funny, kind hearted personality. He also enjoyed working on his cars, playing video games, and spending time with family and friends. Jeremy and his wife Sloane both grew up in Corryton, TN, and both participated in the Gibbs High School Marching Band. Jeremy served in Korea, and he had many amazing stories of his time there. He wrote incredible letters home to Sloane detailing the antics of his fellow Soldiers and the scenery in the area.
The U.S. Army recognized Jeremy for his honorable service with the Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Army Overseas Ribbon.
After graduating basic training, he was then stationed at Ft Wainwright Alaska, where he was assigned to a training rotation in Korea. Jeremy returned home and married Sloane Perry on August 4th, 2021, where they later settled in North Pole, Alaska.
Jeremy is survived by his wife, Sloane, mother Angela Evans, sisters Kathleen Cantrell and Ezree Evans, his grandparents Robert and Candace Beck, as well Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and his in-laws.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Clear Springs Baptist Church 7350 Tazewell Pike Corryton, TN 37721 followed by a 4:00 p.m. Celebration of Life Service, Rev. Justin Pratt officiating. Family and friends will meet 2:45 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023 to leave in procession for a 3:30 p.m. committal service at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery 2200 East Governor John Servier Highway Knoxville, TN 37920 with full military honors by the Fort Campbell Kentucky Honor Guard.
The Army identified two soldiers from the 11th Airborne Division who were killed this week when their Light Military Tactical Vehicle (LMTV) flipped over in Alaska.
Spc. Jeremy Daniel Evans and Spc. Brian Joshua Snowden were killed during the accident, according to an 11th Airborne Thursday news release. The two were both assigned to the Division’s 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Evans, 23, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Snowden, 22, of Lonedell, Missouri, both joined the Army in July 2020 and trained at Fort Moore, Georgia. Evans arrived in Alaska in January 2021 and Snowden arrived in March 2021.
“This is an incredible loss for all of us across the division,” Maj. Gen. Brian Eifler, commanding general of the 11th Airborne Division said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and fellow soldiers of Spc. Evans and Spc. Snowden.”
