DETAILS
On March 15, 1968, Companies A and B conducted operations in the northwest area of the Filhol near Bao Trang at XT 637217. At 1410 hours, at that location Company B found an ammunition cache of over 12,000 small arms rounds. One man from Company B passed out while in a well. A second man was lowed into the well with belt links fastened to his own belt. He passed out and the belt broke dropping him into the well. A third man attempted rescue, wearing a gas mask, but he too passed out. He was pulled out and a forth man was lowed in with a gas mask, but he also passed out. A man was lowered down and holding his breath, retrieved the men in the well one at a time. Two of the Bobcats could not be revived and died. A third man died while enroute to hospital on a dust-off
