DETAILS
On March 15, 1967, the battalion units conducted local S&D operations and escorted convoys in the area of the French Fort. At 1300 hours the battalion established a command post about 3 kilometers northwest of the French Fort at XT 267734. At 1635 hours, the Recon Platoon was escorting a convoy north on Highway 4 when the lead APC was struck by an RPG-2 round near XT 273722. Two Bobcats were wounded. At 1640 hours an APC from Company B was hit by an RPG-2 round in the same area. Four Bobcats were wounded and one died of his wounds later in the day. The fire was returned with SA and AW fire with unknown results. At 2000 hours the Cu Chi Base Camp received 50 rounds of 82mm mortar fire and 25 rounds of 75mm recoilless rifle fire.
