DETAILS
On December 16, 1967, the battalion forward base camp was located near Highway 22 at XT 079839, about 8 kilometers north of Highway 247. At 1100 hours, an estimated platoon sized VC force struck from the west and southwest and southeast. Approximately 20 to 30 rounds of RPG-2 were fired along with AK-47 fire. At 1120 hours, the VC broke contact. Two Bobcats from Company C were killed and 16 were wounded. Two other Bobcats from Company C burned to death inside an APC that was hit by an RPG-2. Their remains had to be removed by Graves Registration personnel. 2 APCs were destroyed in the attack. The VC had 3 men killed by body count. At 1415 hours, a tank that had hit a mine was stripped and destroyed in place.
