DETAILS
On April 22, 1967, the 1/5th(M) began another operation in one of their favorite “homes away from home.” Operation Manhattan had the objective of destroying VC elements, supplies and bases in the Ho Bo Woods, the Boi Loi Woods and along the Saigon River. The 2nd Brigade area of operations was the lower Boi Loi and Ho Bo Woods area. An after action report stated "It apperared from the start that the VC had been forwarned of the operation. There was plain evidence that the VC, shortly before the operation began, had deliberately and unhurriedly evacuated the area. They employed AT and AP mines and booby traps along with 2 and 3 man sniper teams to delay friendly forces." One Bobcat from the Recon Platoon was killed when an APC detonated a mine.
